maimai finale game cabinet
Gaming Homepage > Arcade Game > maimai
maimai is a rhythm arcade game in the shape of a frontload washing machine, where you tap the button and slide on the screen. My first introduction to maimai was on 30 March 2019 when my friends and I went to Holiday Planet in MidValley Megamall after having a group eating and gathering at Sukiya. At that point, my friends are already quite deep into the game, already having online account and plays high difficulty level, wearing gloves.
At that time, the cabinets there are running maimai finale in online mode, you can login to your account by using Aime or Banapassport card on the game cabinet. When logged in, your can record your gameplay with the built-in camera, which you can then choose one of them to share online. In addition to that, your gameplay scores will also be saved so you can look back at how you did in the game afterwards.
Since I only played as guest, I never have any recording of my own gameplay. In those times, I only played the game whenever I met up with my friends, which is to say, very rarely, which meant that having an account would be a waste. Most of it is because of the fact that I was still studying in Shah Alam, and it’s not that easy to get to Mid Valley, especially when I need to change the mode of transportation multiple times, including transferring at KL Sentral, or else I would need to walk by the side of the road bridge from Abdullah Hukum station to Mid Valley, since the pedestrian bridge was only opened several months later in November 2019, after delays due to the collapse that happened during its construction back in November 2016.
With the hardware being originally released in July 2012 in Japan, the game had obviously showing its age. It was unclear which version the game cabinets were when they’re originally released for Malaysian market, but by the time I get to know the game, they were already updated to run maimai Finale, which is the last version ever that was released in December 2018 for Malaysian market, before the game was gradually discontinued, with the server for Malaysian market turned off at 17 December 2019 and my friend crashing out that they no longer able to progress through the game. maimai is subsequently replaced with whole new second generation hardware called maimai DX.
On 1 January 2020, the new second generation hardware cabinet, maimai DX has been spotted in The Mines Shopping Mall. Two days later on 3 January 2020, COBAY announced on their Facebook page that maimai DX has been launched in Sunway Pyramid, IOI Puchong, The Mines, Ekocheras, Sunway Putra, Wangsa Walk, Tesco Kepong, One Utama, Ubowl Seremban, Center Point Seremban, and Dpulze Putrajaya; with the new cabinets coming soon to JB Paradigm, JB Toppen, JB R&F, JB Bigbox, Ipoh Tesco Kinta City, Sunway Carnival, Tesco Bagan Ajam, Tesco Sg Dua, Tesco Mergong, and East Coast Mall Kuantan. Upon seeing the post, some of my friends immediately set up plan to play the game, but I didn’t join until later time as I was busy.
On 16 January 2020, I finally have some free time and finally started playing maimai DX at Wangsa Walk Mall, which was the nearest location to me as I have already moved from Shah Alam to Wangsa Maju by then. While I have been playing maimai as guest, I decided that for maimai DX I want to have proper account for progressing, so I bought Banapassport on the same day before I start playing.
